The type 1 (J1772) to type 2 (62196-2) adapter allows you to charge your Tesla Model S from any J1772 charger. It's rated for 32A charging and has been tested in Australia using our own Model S.
Examples of J1772 chargers include: existing public chargers; home chargers for other EVs (eg Nissan Leaf, BMW i3); mobile chargers from the US.
This is really useful because believe it or not - there are quite a few J1772 chargers available publicly - check out plugshare.com.
Yes - you will find similar cables online from overseas companies, but here's the thing: they are more expensive than us and they can't deliver full power for single charger cars. Here's the other thing: you're supporting an Australian small business, and if anything goes wrong with the product, we're here to offer you the best client service possible!
Important note: because of how Tesla have wired their onboard charger, if you DON'T have the "dual charger" option, the maximum you'll be able to get is NORMALLY 16A from a J1772 station, EVEN IF that station is rated for higher. If you have dual chargers, you'll be able to get 30A. BUT - we've found a way to ensure you get the full 30A, even if you have single chargers!
